Jiggity Jig

Home again, home again. There's a lot to catch people up on, and I'm hoping to have more time to do that now.

For those I haven't talked to in a while, a quick update: I quit my job. No, really. After much deliberation, we decided this was the best thing for Zack, so I'm taking a couple of years to be his number one teacher. The hope is that it will give me and Zack a couple of magic years together, and that it will ease some of the stresses on our family life. The reality is that it's a little terrifying, and Monday was NOT a good first day at home. Orly was sick, so our day started with a trip to the vet (Zack and Orly squirming in the car, in the stroller, on the leash, in the waiting room, around strange dogs, etc.) Zack got to see a newborn kitten, though, so that was exciting. Turns out, Orly was pretty sick (apparently came into contact with some bacteria found in goose feces???). He was sick all over the house all day. It was a real juggling act. Nathan had a friend come in from out of town, so he had gone out to dinner and wasn't able to get home until late. It was a marathon of keeping Zack happy and going through 4 cans of carpet cleaner, waiting for Nathan to get home so he could take Orly into the animal hospital. It was like a bad sitcom. All day, I kept thinking, "Just get through this and tomorrow morning, Zack goes back to daycare so I can go get a root canal". I've never looked forward to that before. Yesterday was better (dentist notwithstanding) and today, we're hoping for a good day. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

On the good news front: Zack's one year check up went well - he's in the 90th percentile for height, and the 50th for weight. Who wouldn't like those stats? He's in great health, and finally has his top teeth coming in. With his new haircut, he's really starting to look like a big boy! He also has a million new tricks every day. He's figured out how to put balls through hoops, manipulate new "big boy" toys, and he plays peek-a-boo or waves, just by suggesting it verbally. It's eerie - it's like he understands what we're saying.

Ok, must run - more soon.

What fun to read your blog! After 24 hours without internet service getting on line and catching up with a day in the life of Zackie was pretty special. Hope Orly really is getting better by now and you can enjoy the week-end. With that beginning, you all had no where to go but up. Keep those entries coming. Grandmommy
